Paying for Son’s care:
The initial cost estimate for Son’s treatment in Boston was over U.S. $700,000. The hospital staff worked day and night to get the costs down. Doctors at Children’s Hospital Boston generously donated their time for Son Pham’s entire treatment. In addition, the Ray Tye Medical Aid Foundation in Boston gave U.S. $150,000 towards Son Pham’s hospital costs. This brings the cost of Son’s in-hospital treatment down to $200,000. This amount has been paid by the Children’s Bridge Foundation, thanks to the generosity of all those who have donated to the Son Pham Fund.
The cost of providing the equipment and supplies for home-care of his tracheostomy is expected to be over $15,000 and this doesn’t include the cost of having VON nurses visiting him once per day for at least one week following each trip to Boston
Additional costs over the next year include items such as medication, additional medical costs and procedures, home care, tutors, travel and living expenses.
Our best estimates show that at least another $75,000 will be needed for his on-going care. The Children’s Bridge Foundation continues to fundraise to ensure as complete a restorative treatment for Son Pham as possible before he returns to Vietnam. Any surplus funds will be directed towards the enhancement of facilities at the orphanage which was home to Son prior to his journey to North America.
