PROJECTS:
South Africa
The Children’s Bridge Foundation will be partnering with Emmanuel’s Wish Foundation (www.emmanuelswish.org) in order to provide medical care to the newly built Siyathemba Children’s Centre in Richmond, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. In 2010 EWF built a Respite Home/Hospice in Richmond with the goal of providing care for those most afflicted by the HIV/AIDS virus. The home’s purpose is to provide those in the late stages of AIDS quality medical care, as well as, in some cases, a safe and dignified place to live out their last days.
The EWF staff quickly realized that while the Respite Home was functioning as it was intended, it often gave rise to a new need – a place to care for the babies and children who were orphaned as a result of the AIDS pandemic. In 2011, the Siyathemba Children’s Centre was built on the hospice’s property in Richmond, KwaZulu Natal. Many of the children served by the Children’s Centre are also living with HIV, or are suffering from severe malnourishment, tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis, severe abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.
The Children’s Bridge Foundation has committed to providing the Siyathemba Children’s Centre with its annual medical care costs. These expenses include: anti-retroviral’s (ARV’s), TB testing and/or medication, antibiotics, painkillers, vitamins and supplements, and other medical supplies as needed. All of the children will also have access to a physician who will provide daily health care visits, as well as access to annual dental/eye exams.
We also hope to be able to help EWF with the expenses related to hiring a teacher to come into the centre daily for those who children who are too sick to attend a local school.
